Superintendent Bob Noble addressed the media following two men and two women surrendered to police at an Ashmont home on Tarakan Avenue.
“As part of Riverina Police and Strike Force, they have investigated a range of ongoing offences going back several weeks,” Superintendent Noble said.
“A number of crimes have occurred over night, including allegations of assault and theft and as a result police attended the house today.
“Police at the time were in the process of executing a crime scene warrant on their premises after tactical police cleared the house.”
At the time police attended four individuals, including two men and two women, who surrendered to police shortly after 7pm.
Superintendent Noble said the investigation is still ongoing, but no one was hurt including police and there was no damage to the property.
“We’ve only just extracted from the house and there’s still an ongoing investigation,” he said.
“There have been allegations of weapons, but we are still in the process of gathering all our information first.”
Subject to investigation no charges have been laid yet, but there are reports of it being a drug related investigation “involving a number of targets” and police are still searching the dwelling.
It is unclear of the relationship of the four individuals who were extracted from the dwelling this evening.
EARLIER:
Police have encouraged residents in the vicinity of Tarakan Avenue in Ashmont to stay indoors as they attend an incident.
Wagga police are currently at a home near Goodstart Early Learning Centre in Ashmont where an unkown number of men, who are believed to be dangerous, refuse to leave the premise.
Riverina Police District Inspector Adrian Telfer said while it is believed there is no risk to the community, residents are advised to stay indoors.
He said there are a few people inside who are ‘extremely dangerous’ and police do not know whether they have weapons or not.
Specialist forces are attending the scene as well as at least three police cars, two ambulances and fire brigade.
Traffic diversions have been put in place.
Police are expected to release a statement later in the evening or tomorrow morning.
