The NDIS was already having a positive impact in the local area since the rollout began on July 1 last year.
Local Area Coordination (LAC) Wagga program manager Shannon Conn she said there were a lot of “good news stories” from people with disability and their families and carers.
Essentially, LACs enable people with disability to develop their NDIS plan, identify their goals and support them to link to service providers of their choice.
“Sure, there have been some challenges with the rollout, but that was always going to be the case with a social reform of this size and scale,” Shannon said.
“But overall we’re seeing some fantastic outcomes and good news stories of people whose lives will change for the better.
“Our staff are doing an amazing job and we encourage people to contact our office for assistance or for more information, particularly on how to utilise their plans and link to local services.”
Intereach is a community and human services organisation which partners with the NDIA to deliver NDIS LAC and Early Childhood Early Intervention services.
In the NDIS Murrumbidgee service area, Intereach provides LAC services on behalf of NDIS Partner, Social Futures.
Intereach has LAC offices in Wagga, Albury, Cootamundra, Griffith, Corowa and Deniliquin.
The Wagga office is located at 20 Peter Street and has 14 LAC staff dedicated to the NDIS.
Shannon said the Murrumbidgee team will continue to get information out into the community so people are better informed about the NDIS.
Two information sessions will be held in Wagga on Wednesday November 14 at 10.30am to 12.30pm at the Intereach office at 20 Peter Street, Wagga.
The self-management session is designed to offer information about managing the plan yourself.
The plan review and service agreement session is designed to help people and service providers understand and prepare for the plan review process and will be held on Tuesday, November 20.
