Mr Fischer, the former deputy prime minister, was in Wagga on Friday to sign copies of Steam Australia – Locomotives that galvanised the nation, his sixth book, which was launched by former fellow MP Kay Hull.
He is currently receiving ongoing treatment for acute leukaemia.

“As my last gesture on the writing front, it’s come up very well because of the photography featuring Wagga, featuring the Riverina, featuring the best of George and Robert Stephenson,” he said.
“It’s a project in conjunction with the National Library and I am glad to see it done.
“To get this book away and to be here today is a double bonus.”
