After three losses in the Twenty20s, their attention turns to the first of the one-day rounds.

As they have done for the past three seasons, the Saints will tackle Kooringal Colts under lights at Robertson Oval on Saturday and are looking to get their hands back on the Koetz-Jolliffe Cup.

They won the first edition of the clash in 2015 but Colts have won the last two.

St Michaels import Beck Frostick is looking to use the clash as a way to kick start their season.

“Our team doesn’t suit the T20s, we haven’t really go any big hitters, so we are hoping we’re in game mode this week to get our first win,” Frostick said.

Batting has let the team down so far, with 103 their best total from the first three weeks.

Frostick knows that has to improve if they are to be competitive against the Colts.

“In the three T20s we only got 100 once, and that was 103, so that is the main problem,” he said. “Our bowling line up is fine, even though we are missing a spinner.”

The Englishman is looking for a better showing with the willow alongside the likes of captain Ryan Forsyth.

Meanwhile Kooringal will be boosted by the return of Sam Whitfield.

He’ll play his second game for the season and captain Keenan Hanigan expects his presence will be a big boost to the batting line up.

“That makes us stronger again,” Hanigan said.

“He’s really good at the top of the order and he’s really good in the field.”

After winning the last two Koetz-Jolliffe Cups, Hanigan is looking to ensure it remains in Colts control.

The two teams have built a good rivalry around the keep and Hanigan wants a strong start to the one-day competition.

“We want to start the one-day comp the best we can,” he said.

“We’ve been pretty sloppy in the Twenty20s so far, have changed the teams around as people are unavailable so hopefully we can pick a team and stick to it for a few weeks.”

It is a big weekend for Colts who also tackle Lake Albert in a Twenty20 match on Friday night.

It is the first of the night fixtures this season, with the final two Twenty20 rounds to be spread over the next six weeks.

Hanigan is looking for a strong performance.

“Lake Albert have one of the better teams in the competition and have proven over the last couple of years how good they are winning a couple of comps,” he said.

“It is definitely a danger game and a real challenge for us. We probably haven’t got our strongest team at the moment but we will play with what we’ve got, give people opportunities and see how we go.”
