It was all for Wagga Christian College’s annual Defence Force Day on Thursday.
Year 8 student Hayley Blackburn knows all too well the sacrifices servicemen and their families make.
“My dad is in the air force,” she said.
“It’s a lot of work for the people who are related and it’s important that we acknowledge what the servicemen do for our country.
“It’s good to see everyone getting involved and they get a little bit of a taste of army life.”
Year 12 student Matthew Redway has been a cadet with the air force for almost five years.
"I am a cadet Sergeant and I have a passion for military and aviation and I would like to become a pilot,” he said.
“It’s important to commemorate and recognise those who have died and those who are serving.”
Lachlan Leslaighter, the Defence School transition aide at Wagga Christian College, organised the day for students.
“It’s a day we use to celebrate our unique local connection to the Australian Defence Force,” he said.
“We want to acknowledge the contribution and the sacrifices they make.
“The school operates between 10 to 15 per cent of active serving Defence families."
Mr Leslaighter said different services provided activities for the students from the army’s obstacle course to the air force’s plane landing.
