For the past two years, the concert has attracted more than 3000 people at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club.
“This year our presales are over 3000 so this will be the biggest Rock at the Races and we could sell out,” said MTC chief executive Scott Sanbrook.
“Anybody who hasn’t bought their tickets should get onto it straight away so they don’t miss it out. We will stop selling when they reach 4000.”
The lineup features Daryl Braithwaite, Ross Wilson, Choirboys, Thirsty Merc, Pseudo Echo, Uncanny Xmen, Wendy Matthews, Chantoozies, Matt Finish, Swanee, Stephen Cummings of The Sports and Steve Balbi of Mi Sex and Noiseworks.
“It’s bringing people into Wagga as a tourist event,” Mr Sanbrook said.
“It’s non-stop hits and you can guarantee the crowd will be singing along.”
Steve Balbi is no stranger to Wagga having performed in town over the years and is excited to be coming back.
“I have two shows this weekend, one at Birdhouse Bar and one MTC Rock at the Races,” he said.
“The first one will be a lot more personal as I like to share my stories, I call them blood and guts.
“I talk about breaking free from drug addiction through to the joy and freedom of love and achievements.”
Balbi said his shows are a bit different than most because of the conversational tone.
“I try to let people in rather than just sing song after song,” he said. “It’s great when you can survive and laugh about the past.”
Balbi said he’s been working with Gus Worland and Hugh Jackman's at Gotcha4 Life throughout the course of this year, which is a foundation that raises awareness around the critical issue of men's mental health.
“This month marks twenty years in recovery from heroin addiction,” he said.
Balbi encourages Wagga to come down to the Birdhouse on Friday night for his new content and MTC’s event on Saturday for the old hits.
Rock at the Races is on this Saturday from 3pm at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club. Tickets are available to purchase online at Ticket Master or by calling 136 100.
Buses will be running back into the CBD with tickets costing $5, available at the event. All access to the event is from Travers Street only.
