Come to the library, and learn about the rights and responsibilities of strata living.
Seniors Rights Service is a community legal centre that protects the rights of older people.
They provide telephone advice, advocacy, legal advice and educational services.
Their services are free and confidential.
Seniors Rights Service will be running a free strata living information session in the Community Learning Space on Friday, November 9 from 10am to noon.
Bookings are essential.
Reserve your place at bit.ly/wwcl_strataliving or contact the library on 6926 9700.
Lawyers from Seniors Rights will be on hand to provide advice to older people who are considering or already living in a strata unit or townhouse.
They will give advice on any aspect of strata living including resolving disputes with Strata Committees, Owners Corporations or Strata Managing Agents.
They also advise on disputes about strata collective sales or redevelopment proposals.
NSW strata laws are designed to help strata schemes run effectively.
If you own, live in or rent a strata property, such as a townhouse or apartment, understanding how strata works will help you to get the most from your property and lifestyle, and resolve issues before they result in disputes or financial problems.
Strata schemes are small, self-governing communities operating as a democracy.
The owners decide collectively how best to manage the property that they share.
For instance, each individual strata scheme can decide on and enforce its own rules, called by-laws, to suit the way owners want to live together and restrict unwanted behaviour.
If you are interested but unable to attend, the library has access to a range of information through Find Legal Answers, a free legal information database curated by the State Library of NSW.
The site contains digital books and pamphlets designed to assist the community in navigating various legal issues and finding answers.
Many of the resources are provided by partner organisation such as the NSW Department of Fair Trading, Aboriginal Legal Service or Legal Aid NSW.
The library also has a Find Legal Answers collection of books that library members can be access and borrow for up to four weeks.
