With the pub’s liquor licence being revoked in mid-December, the separated rock band have decided to join one last time to farewell their old stomping ground.
“It’s a farewell for the Convicts and also the Home Tavern, which is where we had our first gig and meetings,” lead band member Tim Crocker said.
“Over the last eight or nine years we’ve done about 100 gigs there and we haven’t played for about six months after having a break and we’re hoping to finish with a bang on Saturday night.
“Like most bands we’ve had some conflicts but we’ve all moved on to new things; we might get back together one day, but not in the foreseeable future.”
The venue’s purpose-built sound system meant the Home has also hosted big name acts throughout the years, including Kasey Chambers, Daryl Braithwaite, Shannon Noll, Dragon, and the Choirboys.
Mr Crocker said it was “a real shame” that the Home Tavern will shut up shop next month.
“The Home has been the real quarter of live music and we’re lucky in Wagga to have this demand for live music and people travelling from outside to these events,” he said.
“Trevor has been really supportive of all the local bands and that’s where we started.
“I just hope a new place in Wagga will step up because there’s definitely a demand for live music here.”
Owner of the Home Tavern Trevor Jones said the pub’s closure is “just progress” and he is unsure what his future plans are.
“I’ve been at the Home for 14 years and I have no idea what is next for me,” he said.
“The Convicts are reuniting for one last show and they haven’t played together for a while but it should be good.”
The Convicts will reunite and kick off on November 3, at about 9.30pm, to perform classic Australian rock music.
The Home’s last paid gig will be Think Pink Show on December 1, which Mr Jones said will be followed by the last “weekend of entertainment” between December 14 – 16.
