Glenn Dumbrell has signed on to lead the Wagga club and his return is a big boost to their fortunes.
Dumbrell made a massive impact in his first stint with Kangaroos, including finishing runner-up to Lou Goodwin in the 2014 Weissel Medal count, before joining Yanco-Wamoon.
He’s spent the last four seasons there, including two as coach, and was named Group 20’s best and fairest twice.
The 27-year-old is looking forward to getting back into a coaching role.
“The first couple of years I had in Yanco was a good experience as a coach so I’m actually very excited,” Dumbrell said.
“By the sound of it they have some good juniors coming through and I’d like to bring a fair bit of knowledge with me and teach them guys how to play and bring a nice attitude every time I train.”
The return of the crafty hooker is a big coup for the Wagga club looking to bounce back into finals contention and finishing eighth in 2018.
Kangaroos president Terry Cronin is thrilled to have him on board.
“You can’t deny his ability and he was one of the best players in Group 20,” Cronin said.
Dumbrell is looking to develop the club’s young talent however he will be a travelling coach with no plans to move from Leeton.
He doesn’t expect it will be an issue.
“I’ll keep my job in Leeton and travel over for training,” Dumbrell said.
“I’m not too fussed at all.
“It will be fine and give me enough time to think about things on the way there and plan good trainings.”
Unlike in his first two years with Kangaroos, twin brother Troy won’t be joining him at the Wagga club after signing with Yass.
Dumbrell replaces Ben Jeffery after two seasons with Jeffery moving back to Albury.
His appointment completes the Group Nine coaching puzzle for 2019.
Five clubs have new leaders, Kangaroos, Brothers, Gundagai, Young and Cootamundra, while five coaches remain in place from last season.
