Michael Gerrard Bresnan, 64, fronted Wagga Local Court on Wednesday via video-link from the Junee Correctional Centre, where he has been held since the May 19 incident.
Mr Bresnan entered a plea of not guilty to the single charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and will now face the District Court on November 30 so a trial date can be set.
After the incident in May, prosecutors alleged a fight broke out between the pair when Bresnan suggested they watch Prince Harry tie the knot with Meghan Markle.
“The victim expressed his disappointment in respect to the wishes of the accused. As a result, an argument ensued,” documents tendered to the court stated.
The documents claimed the 44-year-old man pulled Bresnan’s television out of its socket, left the house momentarily, and later smashed it on a small table upon his return.
Police alleged Bresnan then forced the victim out of the house, picked up a pair of bike handlebars, and struck him a number of times on the head.
Following the incident, the victim went into cardiac arrest twice, and was revived by paramedics on both occasions.
The victim arrived at Wagga Base Hospital in a critical condition and was placed in an induced coma, but later stabilised.
