Sporting groups are having to work around the dry times too. Members of the Wagga Polocrosse Club, who play at Euberta, are hoping to sink a bore in a bid to water the playing fields.

This will help to secure games during dry times. It is just one of the many plans the group has to keep Wagga front and centre in equestrian sporting events.

This week Wagga Polocrosse Club secretary Katie Peeck took time out to show The Rural the new mower which had been gifted to the club by Wagga City Council.

The mower will allow members of the club to keep the grounds neat and tidy and to regularly mow around the amenities blocks and fire shed. 

Miss Peeck, 23, of Wagga is from a family of polocrosse players and she has been committed to the sport for more than 15 years. 

She said this region was known for producing good players. In fact, the South West Slopes Zone, of which Wagga is part of, is considered one of the best breeding grounds for the sport in Australia.

Miss Peeck said polocrosse was a uniquely Australian sport. “It is a popular family sport too,” she said. 

In addition to running polocrosse at Euberta she said other successful fixtures such as the recent yard dog trial and auction, barrel racing days, gymkhanas and team penning events had found a home there too.
