Alexandra Tierney, 28, and Brenda Tritton, 64, were let go from the Wagga Electorate Office and decided to start open Ted & Olive Boutique together. 

“We had this idea to put a boutique clothing store together and Brenda and I have worked together, so it’s a great partnership,” Ms Tierney said. 

“We were able to identify a gap in the market by talking to friends and family and that’s what we are seeking to address,” Ms Tritton said. 

Both women said they were aware of the difficulties which saw other businesses close down on Baylis Street, but weren’t concerned. 

“We are surrounded by some pretty good stores and we think the online shop is also a big part of it,” Ms Tierney said. 

“It’s important to have the online store open at the same time and show people they can go online and open it up to outside the Wagga region.” 

The business owners agreed to have an online presence was crucial in today’s market and Ms Tritton said they are making sure to have a social media presence. 

“If we have the online then we have the ability to tap into customers that aren't physically in Wagga,” Ms Tierney said. 

“The way that the market is moving is that you have to be online. 

“We get a lot of traffic and interaction on our social media and we can almost instantly get back to them.” 

The store officially opened on Monday and the pair saw a promising start. 

“People are happy for us,” she said.

“What has impressed people today are our beautiful lines, velvets and our cotton.” 

Ms Tierney and Ms Tritton said they were at a “loose end as to what they would do”, but they are excited about this new chapter.
