Reid, a premiership player with Temora in 2014, joined Marrar in 2016. He was part of the Bombers’ back-to-back premiership successes, including the 2017 win against his old club, including his brothers Adam and Dan. But his dad was always keen to see him come back.
“I think I’m ready to go back, it feels right, and the old man has been asking,” Reid, 28, said.
“It’s been a good couple of years at Marrar. While I’m playing pretty decent footy I’d like to go back and finish my career at Temora. That was always the plan.”
Reid was always a dangerous presence across half-forward at Marrar and kicked 24 goals in 15 games last season. He said he’ll always have a close association with the Bombers but the priority is playing a big role at Temora.
“Yeah, I want to step up to a bit of a leadership role at the club and with the side,” he said. “I’m the right age now and I think I’ll play better football if I’m more committed.”
Temora coach Jake Wooden believes Reid will be ideal.
“We’re really looking forward to him coming back,” Wooden said. “Just his experience, and that he wants to come back and play a part at his home club. I’ve said I’m going to give him every opportunity to prove himself and show us what he can do.
“We’ve been looking for another half-forward. And we think he can play on-ball. But he showed again this year he can kick goals and he’ll be just what we need in our forward line. He can fly under the radar a bit for opposition teams but he’s dangerous and very consistent.”
Temora are also excited to bring teenager Jeffery Mannell back from Wagga Tigers, where he played nine first grade games in the Riverina League this year.
“I think he’s got a big future. He was good at Tigers, he’s a local and it’s good to have him back,” Wooden said. “It’s going to be a bit of a surprise to see what he can bring. He’ll probably get an opportunity in the midfield.”
The Kangaroos have again locked up their key men in the engine room of the past three seasons.
Midfielders Sam Jensen and Kieran Shea have committed to once again travelling from Canberra along with small forward Charlie Boyton for his second season.
“Boyto was always coming, he loved his first year. For Kiero and Jenno, this is going in to their fourth seasons so it’s been a massive effort for those guys,” Wooden said.
“It goes to show how much they enjoy the club and we love having them.”
Temora lose Damien Ponting and Mark Breust to retirement while Abe Wooden is set to head back to Lockhart.
