For the third year in a row, the two university clubs faced off on the football field while combining forces off it, with the monies raised to be split between charities close to both clubs’ hearts.

‘Angus Aims for Independence’ supports one of Ag College’s biggest fans, Angus Pennington, who has cerebral palsy.

CSU will donate their share to help Farrer League footballer Josh Hanlon, whose sister Kelsey plays netball with the Bushsows.

“We’re at 25 grand all-up which will be split half and half between the charities,” CSU president Harry Unthank said.

“It was a great day.”

The two clubs held a women’s Aussie rules game at Peter Hastie Oval featuring mixed teams combining players from both sides.

Then the Bushpigs defended their honour against a gallant Aggies outfit determined to show they could transition to the 18-man game. 

“It was good fun, nice and physical. We managed to keep our noses in front all day this time, which was good,” Unthank said, referring to last year’s close call when Aggies almost caused a boilover.

Hamish Pennington had a big game for Ag College while former Bushpig Alex Reilly also turned out for the rugby club and reminded his old teammates what he was capable of. 

But CSU were too strong with coach Pat Noonan leading their charge with an inspired leader’s performance while big man Dom Smith made a welcome return after missing last season with injury.
