Senior project manager Darryl Woods said work at the construction site near the Copland Street and Kooringal Road roundabout was going well.
“The section along Kooringal Road features a 100-metre spillway, which is being poured at the moment,” he said.
“There are two headwalls straddling Copland St. In a flood, we would put temporary barriers in there.”
Mr Woods said tenders for stage two of the levees nearer Wagga’s CBD have closed and a motion to move forward with works will be presented to the next council meeting.
Director of commercial operations Caroline Angel said weather conditions had been “exceptionally in our favour” for construction work.
“I think there was really strong project management and it emphasises that council can deliver big projects when there are unforseeable circumstances,” she said.
“We have had minimal delay and the project is a good reflection of the processes we have and the support of the community and their patience for us to get it back on track.”
