Raine and Horne has sold the block but was unwilling to provide details as the contract will not be settled until next year. 

Developers and agents across Wagga have also been left guessing as to the site’s future.

Craig Tait from Raine and Horne said it is a great location for medium density housing. 

“The block is close to the Wagga Central Business District and entertainment like the RSL and Sportmen’s Hotel,” Mr Tait said. 

“Council is very proactive on increasing the density in town.” 

Mr Tait said there was “huge” interest from developers locally and outside of the region. 

“We had huge demand from developers locally and interstate, which highlights the strength of the market and it was a great result for the vendors,” he said. 

Mr Tait said the purchaser is a developer who is looking at a similar development to what was approved by the Wagga City Council for up to 140 dwellings. 

“This may vary from the development application which approved plans for medium density of 140 dwellings,” he said. 

While the oval’s future is uncertain, it has caused speculation among local property developers and real estate agents. 

Anthony Corbett said he was curious and was “wondering the same thing”, but said he did not know the answer to the oval’s future. 

Similarly, Scott Turner from Knight Frank was also “unsure” and Business Chamber vice president Daniel Donebus said “everyone is being tight-lipped” over this subject.
