The Leeton woman said it was exactly what many other cancer patients and their spouses across the Riverina also needed.
Ms Nardi joined fellow residents, alongside members of Can Assist and Lilier Lodge for a high tea on Sunday morning to celebrate the volunteer-based service’s milestone achievement.
This month, Can Assist – co-owner of Lilier Lodge – marked its 60th anniversary across the country. One year on from its revival, the Wagga branch decided to join the Foundation Month festivities, with a classy fundraising affair at the RSL.
Ms Nardi had stayed at the cancer respite accommodation while undergoing radiation therapy. Despite staying by herself, Ms Nardi said she never felt alone. She said the support guests received from the day they arrived made it feel as though they were “coming home”.
It is one of the many reasons the 61-year-old said she would continue to back Can Assist.
Branch president John Nixon said after 12 months, the volunteer-funded service was already supporting more than 43 cancer patients along their journey of survival.
Lilier Lodge manager Margaret Dalmau said:
“Money raised here, stays here”.
