Harry Day was a dominant winner of the $10,000 Menangle Country Series Heat (C1) clocking a mile rate of 1.55.6 for the 1755m trip.
The front-running drive by Brad Hewitt matched the time Hewitt set with his own horse, Untitled, back in May this year.
With Wagga Harness Racing Club soon moving to a new track, there’s every chance the record won’t be beaten.
“I thought he would’ve went alright but yeah – the time was good anyway,” trainer Dennis Day said.
It’s three wins from three starts at Wagga for the four-year-old gelding which is named after Day and owner Mark Croatto’s grandson.
Harry Day ($1.50f) beat Redland Harry ($23) by almost 20m. They booked a spot in the Country Series Final at Menangle next weekend.
“Oh, that’s a different kettle of fish,” Day said. “I’ll see what happens.”
Brother Neil Day is also heading to Menangle after his mare Arma Hotshot was an equally-impressive winner of the $10,000 C3-C4 Country Series Heat, beating Ned Pepper by 18m in a mile rate of 1.56.6.
“We both had a bit of luck today,” Neil said. “We both drawn good and they raced well. (The Country Series) are the races you chase. It’s a little bit of extra money and keeps your owners happy.”
Arma Hotshot has run second in three Country finals and is out to go one better this time around.
