The Canberra Gunners representative has been plying his trade in the nation’s capital for almost three years, the most recent of which saw him break through the academy side and into the SEABL starting team.
It’s been a season of on-court challenges with Commins facing some of the best basketball talent Australia has to offer.
“I was actually watching the Philadelphia 76ers play against Melbourne United the other day and I realised I’d played against quite a few of those NBL players,” Commins said.
“It’s so cool to see some of those professional players in action and knowing I’ve been able to play against them.”
Though Junee’s basketball facilities have undergone a solid revamp since Commins’ last game in town, the 22-year-old is eager to shoot around during the Juggernaut’s Gala Day.
“Steve got in touch through my dad and straight away I was keen to do it – I’m definitely up for it,” Commins said.
“I think they’ve changed the backboards over and done a fair bit since I was last playing here.”
“There wasn’t a lot of junior basketball in town, so I ended up travelling to Wagga three days a week for training and played as a junior with the Heat before moving to Sydney and then Canberra.”
