Garness spent last year at home in Cootamundra and Saints captain Ryan Forsyth was rapt to confirm the paceman – who took 24 wickets (avg: 14.1) in his last season with the club – is back to lead their attack.
“We see Dave as very important, he’s an opening bowler and was the leading wicket-taker two years ago,” Forsyth said.
After consecutive losses, Saints and Wagga RSL are both chasing their first win of the season at Wagga Cricket Ground.
“The start to the year in terms of where we’re at as a group is really good,” Forsyth said.
“We’ve really enjoyed Wardy (coach Justin Ward) coming on board and bringing a few new ideas to the club.
“We’ve done some good things both weeks. But at the moment the poorer parts of our performance are significantly worse than the other teams. That’s just the difference.”
Saints are also looking forward to the return of Jack Reynolds, Harry Reynolds, Chris Donaldson and Sam Nicholls next month.
In the meantime, the focus is on getting some points on the board against Wagga RSL before the two-week break.
“They’re an improving side, they’ve got a really good bowling line-up and a few batters who can do some damage,” Forsyth said.
“We see them as a tough game. They’re a team on the up and they’ve built on their last couple of years.”
RSL lost to Lake Albert and then Kooringal Colts while St Michaels have been beaten by Wagga City and Lake Albert.
