The Cats have made the perfect start, beating St Michaels and South Wagga, and captain Josh Thompson said a hat-trick of victories before the competition pauses for two weeks would be ideal.
“It’d obviously be good to win the first three of the season,” Thompson said.
“It’s a bit of a goal that we had early in the season and hopefully we can put in a strong performance.”
In their bid to build a strong foundation for the season, Thompson knows a loss this week would undo the rewards of last Saturday’s 16-run win over the Blues
“It’s good to have one up on South Wagga early,” he said. “I know it’s only a Twenty20 but they’re going to have a few players to come back in later in the season.”
Colts enjoyed their first win last Saturday chasing down Wagga RSL’s total of 144 at Harris Park with the help of an unbeaten half-century from Dave Bolton.
“He’s the man you want to get our early,” Thompson confirmed. “They are a danger side. You never know what you’re going to get with them.”
On the bigger McPherson Oval, the Cats defended 124 against the Blues last week and Thompson believes a total of 120 will be about par again.
Last week’s win was highlighted by the sensational hat-trick to medium-pacer Louis Grigg who has taken seven wickets in seven overs this year.
Thompson was pleased to report the Cats will take an unchanged 11 into Saturday’s fixture saying the early stability is a big help.
