Casey Wilson, 29, after opening her own business – in marketing, social media and events – found that she was dealing with unimaginable stress.
“I visibly lost a lot of weight,” she said.
“I have anxiety and a bit of a digestive issue and the digestive issue has not been resolved.
“A lot of it has been based around anxiety and not being able to manage my stress, so when I get stressed my body shuts down.”
Casey said this results in her being unable to function properly.
“It’s been a longstanding issue, but opening your own business you get stressed in ways you didn’t know you could stress,” she said.
“I was having McDonald's because it was quick and easy, but then you would feel like death.
On top of dealing with the fallout of her health issues, Casey was also struggling to get answers from her doctors.
“I cannot count the number of doctors I have been to see and I have been written off a lot,” she said.
“I think sometimes doctors see so many patients with the same problems, they just say ‘it’s in your head’.
“Even if it is, then I still need help.”
Casey said she still hasn’t found a doctor that will sit with her and work through the issues without labelling her a “nutcase”.
“Some doctors are fantastic, but you can’t get in to see them,” she said.
Casey decided to make a change and switched her diet to vegetables and grass-fed meats.
“I feel so much better,” she said.
Casey said, women do not say no and as a result let self-care fall to the wayside.
“They are always on the go, whether they are working, cleaning, cooking, shopping, looking after the kids, doing drop-offs,” she said.
“We need to learn to make time for ourselves.”
Casey invites women to join her on October 28 at Cache Store of Food from 11am to enjoy a morning with their girlfriends, sisters, mums and peers for Wagga’s first ‘From Brunch to Lunch’.
“I realised a collective event would help women connect with each other and with health practitioners,” she said.
“The goal is to ultimately improve health across the board for local women—I want to bring women together to have a great morning while learning topical and inspirational health information relevant to all our lives.”
The event will have a high tea lunch, a mindfulness yoga session, free gift bags and access to market stalls.
Tickets are available until Wednesday www.stickytickets.com.au/76335/from_brunch_to_lunch__womens_health_and_wellness_lunch.aspx.
