Can Assist originated in 1955 and Margaret Dalmau, manager of Lilier Lodge, said the money that has been raised locally has stayed in the Riverina.
“October is the anniversary of when Can Assist originally started and also the anniversary of the Wagga branch opening,” she said.
“Lilier Lodge is a joint venture between Can Assist and Cancer Council.”
To fundraise and mark the occasion the organisation is hosting a Can Assist Foundation Month High Tea on October 21 from 11am at the Wagga RSL Club.
Emma Phillips, executive director of Can Assist, said the high tea was reminiscent of how it all began, with ladies in Sydney offering cups of tea to country women who had travelled for their own treatment or that of a loved one.
Tickets are $60 and are available at Lilier Lodge, 317 Edward Street or by contacting the Lodge on 69255240.
