In the 24-hour period ending at 9am on Wednesday, there was 5.6 millimetres of rain recorded by the Bureau of Meterology at Wagga, much less than the 36mm dumped on Griffith in the same period.
Nigel Smedley from the bureau’s Wagga office described the region’s rainfall as patchy.
While Griffith received a drenching, nearby Yanco recorded just three millimetres.
Deniliquin recorded 17mm, Hay 9mm, Hillston 20mm and Narrandera 5mm.
At Gundagai, there was 9mm, while Cootamundra had 6mm and Temora a much higher 17mm.
Ahead of Tuesday’s rain, the bureau issued a severe weather warning for the western Riverina, with concerns about damaging winds.
The bureau had been predicting further showers on Wednesday, but by early afternoon, the clouds were giving way to sun and there had been no more rain.
The latest season update from the Department of Primary Industries shows 98 per cent of NSW is still drought-affected, while the bureau has warned that the remainder of the year will not only remain drier than average, but will also be warmer.
