Just after 5.30pm, Turvey Park were called to a grass fire in Wagga’s north in Cartwrights Hill, which turned out to be a large pile of green waste that had become alight and spread to two cars.
Station officer in charge of Turvey Park Fire Station Justin Bentley said that the two cars at the rear of the property were “totally destroyed” by the fire.
The fire truck was assisted by a tanker to bring the large pile under control and it took about an hour and a half for the fire to be put out.
The fire service were called to a second fire on Monday evening, October 15, at 10.40 to a large grass fire in east Wagga.
Assistance was called on route to Tasman Road and due to difficult access the Forest Hill Rural Fire Brigade and the Glenfield Rural Fire Service attended the scene.
The extra two services were called to support the brigade to bring the fire under control, which took about an hour for the fire to be extinguished.
While the North Wagga fire is not being treated as suspicious, the Tasman Road fire has been left with the police.
