The Yazidi community will be cooking up a storm for this weekend’s foodie event, said Tuba Gundor. 

“We are excited to share our food with Wagga,” she said. 

“We will be selling our flatbread and making our favourite foods from back home.”

On the menu is Middle Eastern chicken, dolma and other delicious, traditional dishes. 

Wagga City Council director community Janice Summerhayes said the highlight of the event will be the World Food Village. 

“This year is bigger than any other year because we will have 31 countries represented,” she said. 

“It includes cuisine from Afghanistan, Iran, Greece, India, Iraq, Turkey, Zimbabwe and more. There will be something for everyone from authentic cultural dishes to modern street bites.”

Headlining Fusion18 are Mama Kin Spender, Oh Mercy, Henry Wagons and Woodes. 

The unique Australian artists are set to bring an eclectic mix of sounds and styles to the day, Ms Summerhayes said. 

“Along with our headliners, some of our Fusion18 favourites will return with DJ sets, including a DIY solar-powered sound system,” she said. 

“The roving performers are always a hit and this year there will be everything from stiltwalkers to pop-up New Orleans-style music.

“Ones to keep an eye out for include the bubble-blowing unicorns and the dancing accountant.” 

Festival-goers can bring a picnic blanket and alcohol if they choose, but Ms Summerhayes encourages everyone to roam around and participate in the "vibe of it all”. 

“I encourage everyone to try something new this weekend,” she said. 

Alex Gow, singer and songwriter of Oh Mercy told The Daily Advertiser he was keen to be returning to Wagga. 

“I'm really excited to be apart of the Fusion18 lineup as I'll be sharing a stage with some of my favourite Australian artists,” he said. 

“I'll be playing Oh Mercy songs in a duo format, taking tunes from each of my five albums. 

“Playing in this stripped back way is a really fun and engaging way for me to revisit my songs, to represent them in the simple way they were written, without the added production.”

Parts of Baylis and Morrow streets will be closed off. Fusion18 is this Saturday from 4pm to 9pm at the Victory Memorial Gardens.
