O’ So Hazy gave connections a big sight by leading the inaugural Kosciuszko until the 300 metre mark before she eventually tired and was passed.
She battled on to finish ninth and earn $16,000, which was split between connections and slot holder Eamon Gormley.
Wagga trainer Scott Spackman loved the experience and was extremely proud of his mare.
“It was awesome. Everything and some,” Spackman said.
“I thought she ran super. It would have been nice to take a sit behind The Monstar but I obviously had her a little bit too fresh.
“If she had of finished top five I would have been over the moon but I still think she ran out of her skin again.
“She’s beaten horses like Snitz and Fuel home, finished right on The Monstar’s hammer and he's a group winner and Victorem was only three lengths in front of us.”
Spackman set O’ So Hazy for The Kosciuszko as soon as the race was announced. He will now give her a brief break before working out the next plan.
“She’ll go to the paddock for a couple of weeks,” he said.
“I might try to find a race for her over the Flemington carnival, or a Moonee Valley night meeting. Try to get a little bit of listed on her page if I can.
“It’s all pie in the sky stuff but the mare has forced our hand.”
