Little Triffids Flowers is run by business partners Sophie Kurylowicz and Bethany Saab and with the arrival of spring, they are hosting workshops to teach residents about putting together flower bouquets and gardening.
“I started in 2014 and I was going into a period of maternity leave and I thought I would have heaps of time, which was pretty funny,” Mrs Kurylowicz said.
“Everything grew so well on our land and soon friends were starting to ask me for arrangements and then I met Beth who kept dropping hints about how much she loved flowers.”
Despite the drought, Mrs Kurylowicz carefully selected plants that can sustain a Wagga summer and has installed a drip irrigation system and mulched her gardens to ensure they retain water.
“Some flowers love the heat, but there is no point in me trying to grow something like peonies,” she said.
Ms Saab said the workshops are popular because people can see where flowers grow and flowers are really “of the moment”.
“We also try to use local suppliers,” she said.
“We get our ceramic pots from the Wagga Potters Club and we try and support small local businesses.
“We have found how helpful collaborations have been and it goes both ways.”
Christmas wreath workshops will be open soon and private workshops can be booked. For more information click here.
