The reigning premiers opened their campaign in the worst possible way last week as Young Guns avenged their 2017/2018 grand final defeat with a 9-3 thrashing of their main rivals.
Spurred on by the loss, Jets emerged a vastly improved side against the Tuckies on Tuesday night.
Recent Australian touch football representatives Rhiannon Podmore and Vienna Randal pulled the strings for Kevin Salmon’s side as Georgia Carroll showcased her skills with a fine double in the blue and white strip.
Cathy Salmon and Sophie Crouch also excelled in the 9-3 victory, giving their coach plenty to smile about.
“We were missing quite a few key players last week, so it’s good to see them back and we ended up putting in a much better performance,” Salmon said.
“Last week was easily the worst we’ve ever played, ever, but things went much better against Tuckies.”
The result sees Jets leapfrog ahead of Tuckies into second place on the premier grade ladder behind Young Guns, who made it two from two with a convincing win over Farmer’s Home Hotel.
Farmers simply didn’t have enough attacking firepower to match it with their rivals as Young Guns ran out 7-2 victors at Jubilee Park.
In the men’s premier grade competition, The Casuals did it tough but managed to extend their unbeaten streak with a hard-fought 8-7 win over Quolls.
The match was a see-sawing affair with The Casuals just keeping their noses in front before Kieren Stevens scored late in the piece to reduce the margin to one.
However, it wasn’t to be as the sides traded tries on the buzzer to see The Casuals keep their place atop the ladder.
Meanwhile, a Darren Reynoldson hat-trick was enough to see Advanced Communications Cobras past MJR Electrics in a 7-5 thriller.
The result leaves Electrics – last year’s premiers – winless after three rounds but just ahead of bottom placed Rock Solid Gear Wizards on percentage.
