About 4am, police were alerted to an incident in Hammond Street where the man sustained stab wounds to the left-hand side of his abdomen.
It understood the victim walked from his house down the road to his father’s, where they then drove to Junee Hospital. He was transferred to Wagga to await surgery.
The residence has now been cordoned off as part of Riverina District Police’s ongoing investigations. Wagga inspector Darren Cloake said it was clear a disturbance had occurred in the lounge room and kitchen of the first home, but that the motive for the stabbing is unclear.
“It appears to have been a targetted attack, and the victim is known to us,” said Inspector Cloake.
The victim and his father are understood to be refusing to speak to police about who stabbed him.
Police are now canvassing neighbours for information.
