Festival season has started with a bang and Devour is well underway, putting the focus on fresh flavours of locally harvested and homemade produce.

Matthew Holt, Wagga City Council Visitor Economy and Events co-ordinator, said Devour is all about their “Eat, Drink and Grow” partners. 

“We encourage those partners to work together to package products and experiences all month long for October,” he said.  

“We are already one week down and have a few weeks to go.

“There are also a few major events, not just in Wagga, but our surrounding shires for residents and visitors.”

From high teas to pasta nights and flower workshops to cooking classes, there is plenty to get you out and enjoying the spring weather. 

Mr Holt said they have encouraged their partners to work with each other.

“We have Gelatissimo working with Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory to make a licorice gelato all month,” he said

“By working together, whether that be businesses or local shires through the Wagga Tourism Partner Program, it enables them to offer more.

“It could be more, a different offering or a bigger offering that they can’t do themselves.” 

Mr Holt said it means they can enhance the experience for visitors and build the economy for Wagga and surrounds. 

“It happened for the first time last year and from the feedback we received it was very successful,” he said. 

To residents and visitors, Mr Holt said to take advantage of this opportunity.

“Go out and do something different,” he said.

“Learn about a cooking class or different tastes of the world that we have on our doorstep.

“Don’t forget about our homegrown produce and drink, it is a really great month to explore different things.”
