Thorne Street Café is now offering a Friday night feast that showcases authentic Persian dishes and flavours.
Fi Ziff and Parsa Shayesteh, fondly known as Pa, opened Thorne Street Café in 2015 and got married three years later.
Pa migrated to Wagga from Shiraz, Iran as a skilled migrant and found himself missing the tastes of home, Fi said.
“His mum, Marjan, she prepared a little notebook of recipes for him and sent it over,” she said.
“He’s been cooking that for me and our family for the last six years.”
Less than a year ago, the business owners decided to try something new by offering the Persian degustation.
“We named the event after his mum, that’s why it is called Marjan’s Kitchen,” Fi said.
“It’s been in planning for six to eight months.
“There’s nothing like it in Wagga. Not only is it really good, home-cooked Persian – but it’s also the atmosphere.”
Fi said they were aiming to provide the diners with an experience, not just a meal.
“We’ll be offering it year round,” she said.
“The only tweak I made, is I added mustard to the cream for the photos because I love it.
“They might use mustard seed, but they wouldn’t use dijon.”
Fi said their first feast was a success on Friday night.
“We were booked out and we do a maximum of 50,” she said.
“Thorne Street Café is hosting it and it’s all about community and we have a great community vibe.
“This is just an extension it so we invite them to enjoy it with friends and family.”
