The show features delightful period costumes and set, and offers audiences great suspense and mystery combined with a strong sense of comedy.
This new production by SoACT has been directed by Josh Steadman and assisted by Margaret Bannister, who have had a wonderful cast of experienced and new actors to work with to make this a very memorable show.
One of the highlights of the production is a sword fight. However, this presented the question - who could put this together and also teach the actors to work with the épée safely?
Julian Smith, the principal of Wagga Wagga Fencing Club, stepped into the fencing master’s shoes and gave the actors a great experience in learning this centuries-old skill with great success.
Julian was a member of the School of Arts in his earlier years and happily came back to assist with this amazing scene.
Wagga musician Dominic Vella also has contributed to the production with original compositions for the show soundtrack.
This advertising feature is supported by the following organisation:
All of this off-stage talent has been combined with the genius of the great detective Sherlock Holmes (played by Iain Wright), whose skills are needed to try and save the famous Lilly Langtry from the evil hands of Moriarty (Lauren Walker).
Lilly Langtry (Catherine Dawson), who was known as The Jersey Lily, finds herself in a compromising situation that could bring the Crown of England to its knees.
The wit of Oscar Wilde (Josh Steadman) is called upon to work with Sherlock Holmes and his plans to save Lilly. The question is, can Holmes solve the mystery in time to prevent this scandal?
Dr Watson (Craig Dixon) is spellbound by Lilly and willingly offering his services to run to her rescue.
Other members of the cast include Mel Donges, who has the challenge of presenting multiple characters into the plot, ably assisted by an entourage of shifty characters played by Brett Whitelaw and Tony Woods.
Well-known local actor Tim Stait brings an enigmatic foreign presence to the story of Lilly Langtree’s compromising situation.
