At about 4:50pm on Tuesday September 25, a Toyota Hilux was travelling south on Jugiong Road, turning right onto Gundagai (Muttama) Road.
A male cyclist travelling in the opposite direction was collected by the car, and ejected from the bike upon impact.
The male driver of the Hilux called emergency services before administering first aid to the cyclist.
Riverina district paramedics and police arrived on the scene soon after.
The cyclist was airlifted to Canberra Hospital with internal injuries.
He is now in a critical but stable condition following overnight surgery.
The Hilux driver was breathalysed at the scene, and taken to Cootamundra Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
The intersection of Jugiong Road and Gundagai Road remained closed to traffic until midnight, with a further investigation to take place in the future.
During the seven hour period of closure, Old Gundagai Road was identified as the best alternative route through the area.
