Whyman was named alongside incumbent Matildas goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold for the two-game tour earlier this morning but learned of her selection in a rather unorthodox manner.
“It was probably seven o'clock in the morning (and) it was amazing," Whyman told Western Sydney Wanderers TV.
"We were down in Bathurst doing coaching clinics ... and I got a message from my friend (Socceroos star) Alex Chidiac saying how much she misses me and what not."
Her team mate then dropped a selection bombshell on the unsuspecting Whyman, congratulating her on being named in the squad.
"I had no idea at that point (so) I rang my mum straight away and said 'Mum, I'm going to Europe'," she said.
"I'm very exciting for the trip to Europe, playing against France and England and after that making my way back and getting back into pre-season just before the start of the W-League season."
It’s the latest highlight in a roller coaster month for Whyman including a Goalkeeper of the Year award during this month’s Football NSW Gold Medal Night and the Wagga junior is relishing her achievements.
"I've always wanted to be a part of the Matildas and it's been a dream of mine to work my way into the team. Just finally to have it here is just an awesome, awesome feeling.”
While Whyman is excited at the prospect of international duties, the shot-stopper remains fully focused on her W-League commitments and said she was excited to continue playing alongside the likes of Leena Khamis and Caitlin Cooper.
“They're fantastic players and I've been playing with them for a few years.”
“They've slowly just given me advice and to play alongside players like that really builds up your confidence and it really helps you to develop more quickly as you need to mature a little faster in a W-League squad.”
