A council statement said a a partnership between Wagga City Council and Cricket NSW to bring a first class Shield match and also a Futures League fixture to Wagga was approved at Monday night’s Council meeting.
During a confidential section of the meeting, councillors approved a motion for the council general manager to “enter into an agreement with NSW Cricket for the hosting of Futures League and Sheffield Shield matches during the 2018/19 season”.
The motion also approved “that financial assistance be provided to NSW Cricket in the form of fee waivers funded from the 2018/19 Major Events Sponsorship budget for the use of Robertson Oval and the Oasis facilities, estimated at $2240”.
Wagga council general manager Peter Thompson told the chamber that councillors had identified another budget source to fund the agreement because they wanted to preserve sponsorship funds for community events.
According to the motion, the total cost to Wagga council would be $10,000 in in-kind services and $12,000 in actual costs for the venue requirements.
Crs Dallas Tout and Paul Funnell were absent from that section of the meeting for health reasons.
