Turvey Park Station Fire and Rescue NSW attended a house fire and another car fire on Friday, September 21.
At about midday on Friday, two Turvey Park FRNSW crews were called to a house fire in Ashmont.
They arrived to find a heavy smoke, where they gained entry and extinguished a small fire.
Later that day, they attended a car fire just after 10.30pm.
A station spokesperson said the incident was on Red Hill Road at Glenfield Park.
“We were called at 10.40pm and it took about 25 minutes to extinguish,” he said.
One crew along with the Riverina Police District attended the incident.
This bring the number of car fires in Wagga to 54 in 2018.
Meanwhile, Forest Hill Rural Fire Service also attended two incidents on September 21, including an illegal backyard fire.
Operational officer Bradley Stewart said it was believed occupants of a home set furniture on fire.
“Brigade members spoke with the occupants after extinguishing the fire,” Mr Stewart said.
“Members also conducted community engagement and advised them about appropriate use of fire.”
On the same date, crews also attended a two-car accident on the corner of Bakers Lane and Sturt Highway, Gumly Gumly.
There were no reports of injuries.
They were also called to an animal-rescue situation.
“A motorist reported striking a bird – it was a galah and had to be extracted from the engine bay,” Mr Stewart said.
“Unfortunately, the bird didn’t survive.”
The fire-related incidents come as the weather heats up and bushfire season approaches.
Mr Stewart reminds residents about the bushfire-danger period and that they need to notify neighbours and the NSW RFS Riverina Zone about their intentions to use fire.
“Those wishing to burn of materials need to o contact the local RFS and notify their neighbours 24 hours in advance of lighting a fire,” he said.
