In a statement provided by the university, it was explained that the decision to drop the courses was made after “strategic review and comprehensive analysis of the BA and the BLSA against CSU course performance indicators.”
Those performance indicators are yet to be explained by the university.
A lecturer within the Arts faculty explained the decision is intended to strengthen the course rigors by absorbing Humanities subjects into other vocational degrees.
“When faculties go through review, they look at the relevance of courses to the changing industries,” said Dr Robert Lewis, lecturer in the School of Communications and Creative Industries.
Dr Lewis primarily teaches in performance and has said that his units will stand to grow by aligning with the film and television units.

He also said that this decision has not come as a complete surprise to teaching staff.
“What I’ve noticed in the past two years is its become more collaborative between departments with even the merging of schools,” Dr Lewis said.
“There’s a lot of factors that contribute to degree restructure.
“What I’ve found in the past 10 years as an academic is that the need to change is often because there is a danger of becoming stagnate even as the industry changes outside the university.”
The decision will not affect students who are currently enrolled in these degrees.
Dr Lewis is hopeful the changes might encourage greater specialisation with a mind toward future employment options.
“These days the students we teach end up having multiple careers throughout their lifetime and they need to be multi skilled,” he said.
“The more multi skilled you are, the more chances of work you have, so by studying subjects outside of your field, you become aware of what other disciplines do within your field.”
