When she was just two days into the world, her mother rejected her, leaving her cold and and alone on Kyla Walmsley’s family farm.
But the four-week-old poddy lamb has been kept warm in her new home at the Lake Road Veterinary Clinic with a delivery of knitted jumpers from the ‘Lamb Jumpers Helping Our Farmers’ facebook group.
“They go through a lot of shock being born and then being rejected,” said Miss Walmsley.
“The jumpers mean they can use 20 per cent less energy to stay warm, which means less feed too,” said fellow vet staff Montana Taylor.
“We’ve seen so many more poddies this year, unfortunately, because of the drought.”
Born a twin, Alice was the smaller lamb rendering her more dependent on her mother.
“Funnily enough she’s probably better off now,” said Miss Walmsley.
“She has five vets and all the staff looking after here. Plus she’s super cute in her jumper, so she might be alone but she’s not unloved.”
