There will be everything from hands-on interactive activities for two to five-year-olds, to wild and wonderful experiences for six to 12-year-olds.
Youngsters will be able to lose themselves in the fun and excitement of Spring Jam’s combination of circus acts, adventure play, interactive fun, live entertainment, safaris and treats.
And did we mention there would be giant ants? Well, OK, they’re actually performers from the Polyglot Theatre, but they look like really, really big ants and have their own “breadcrumbs” to use in games with children.
Spring Jam be held on Saturday, October 6, in the Wagga Botanic Gardens from 10am to 4pm.
It is replacing the popular Little Big Day Out festival.
Wagga City Council’s Sally Manning said Little Big Day Out had become so popular, it had outgrown its long-time venue in the Wagga Civic Centre precinct.
So with the change of venue came an opportunity to upgrade the whole event.
Spring Jam is largely free, but will feature ticketed performances by the Children are Stinky, a group which is back in Australia after a successful appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Children are Stinky delivers daredevil stunts, incredible acrobatics, lightning fast hula hoops, and loads of laughs. And it’s not just all for kids – the show is set in the 1990s with plenty of throwback laughs and nostalgia for mums and dads.
While Children Are Stinky is a ticketed event, there will be plenty of free live entertainment on the main stage.
The Wagga zoo staff are organising “safaris” and the miniature railway will be running.
The festival is being divided into “zones”, each offering different types of activities from active to workshop-style and chilled out.
The chill-out zone will also feature a variety of food vendors.
However, Ms Manning said families were being encouraged to bring a picnic and a blanket and just relax.
“We wanted to offer something in Wagga that families would normally have to travel to see,” she said.
To book tickets for the performance of Children are Stinky, or to secure a place at a free workshop being offered by performers, go to the Spring Jam website.
But be quick. Ms Manning said tickets are selling quickly.
