Playing in the reserve grade Madden Trophy competition this season, the Lady Lions notched up 12 wins en route to a top four finish but were rank outsiders to progress past the Jaguars, a side they had failed to score against in both of their previous encounters this season.
Brittany Clarke proved the bookies wrong with a semi final double to see her side emerge 2-0 winners and Long is excited at the very real prospect of premiership glory.
“After our second game against Junee (a 2-0 loss), I thought we had enough there to turn it around the next time we played against them,” Long said.
The Lions have at times struggled with injuries and absent players but Long is confident her side will be at full strength for a crack at the crown.
“We’ll have a full squad which is great because Tolland will be tough,” she said.
“We’ve lost to them twice this year but I’d like to think we can pull off a win and I certainly hope we will.”
