Harlequins’ Riley Makeham became the youngest winner of the David Mumford Memorial Trophy for men’s division one.
He finished on 16 votes, four ahead of joint runners-up Lake Albert’s Adam Boyd and teammate Bradley Waston.
Not polling his first vote until round seven, Makeham had a purple patch collecting 12 votes in eight games, including three best on grounds, to take home the award.
The 16-year-old eclipsed six-time winner Paul Oakman who won his first aged 17 in 1994.
In was a changing of the guard with the next generation of hockey players dominating the votes with four of the top eight aged 18 or under.
Boyd,18, was second with CSU’s Adrian O’Rourke, 17, fifth on nine votes and Royals keeper Logan Wilford equal sixth with eight.
In the women’s, Royals’ stranglehold continued for a third season in the Ann Paul Memorial Shield.
Clara Dobbie, 17, joined teammate Emily Paul as a two-time champion after taking the prize with 18 votes.
LAC United Caitlin O’Loughlin was runner-up with 16 votes and CSU’s Chayse Holland a vote behind in third.
Dobbie won the award outright this year after being part of the historic three-way tie in 2016.
Jackson White won the prestigious Olive McWhinney Memorial Award for Member of the season with all his work in junior game development, representative and umpiring.
