Midfielder Brad Langtry travelled back from Melbourne to be a part of the club’s 100th year and premiership defence. He was rewarded on both fronts, being named in the Bombers’ Team of the Century, and bowing out with a long-awaited flag having been a part of three losses in a row at his home club and another grand final loss in Queensland the following season.
“It’s the perfect way to finish. That’ll be it for me. It’s just the perfect ending. It’s something that I’ve always strived for and to finally get it it’s just amazing,” Langtry said.
A two-time league medallist, Langtry joins his fellow Bombers of the Century, Brad Turner and Clint Taylor in heading off into the sunset, marking the end of an era.
“The body was cactus so I think it’s time now, definitely,” he said.
Langtry believes the secret to their success was a well-rounded side with few standouts and even fewer weaknesses.
And on the big stage they just knew how to get the job done.
“I thought we took advantage of our momentum and then we kind of really stifled theirs. We were able to take our opportunities but then when we were up against the wall we really locked it down well,” he said.
