Almost 100 horses are set to take part over the three disciplines, dressage, showjumping and cross country at the CSU Equine Centre.
REA Horse Trials vice president Emily Dockray admitted numbers were slightly down on previous years, but she is still expecting a big weekend.
“It is a little less numbers than we usually get, which I think is a combination factors,” Dockray said.
“We didn’t run an event last year and this year we did reschedule this event as it was originally going to be run in May.”
The dressage and showjumping are on Saturday before the cross country on Sunday.
With recent rain, Dockray expects the course to be in perfect order.
“We had rain during the week so the course looks absolutely fantastic and we are really gearing up for a great weekend,” she said.
