An Ashmont man accused of stealing an array of valuable musical instruments during a February break-in has been denied bail.
Dwayne Mark Ashton, 36, fronted Wagga Local Court via video-link from a Goulburn cell on Wednesday after he was charged with break, enter, and steal, stealing a car, possessing illicit drugs, and hindering police.
Mr Ashton is accused of stealing multiple guitars, amplifiers, an electronic drum kit, laptops, headphones, handbags, watches, wallets, knives, perfumes, and a Rolling Stones collector’s item from the Allambie Way residence.
His lawyer, Nico Rump, argued it would be unjust to make Mr Ashton wait in custody until his trial date, which could potentially be as late as mid-next year.
“This matter’s already been on foot for over seven months, Mr Ashton’s been in custody for over seven months, and the matter’s yet to be committed [for trial],” Mr Rump said.
“There are good prospects of defending the matter, and Mr Ashton vehemently denies his involvement in the offence.”
However, the magistrate ultimately denied Mr Ashton’s request for bail.
Mr Ashton’s matters were adjourned for negotiations between the parties, and he will return to court on October 10.
