Lace Monster was a surprise winner of the second of two heats last week and, from a similar box, Honey is hoping for more of the same in the Regional Final at Wagga on Friday night.
“They just have to leave her alone and let her keep coming home,” Honey said.
“That would be great.”
However he’s definitely not expecting a repeat of last time out.
Instead he’s hoping for Lace Monster to get her fair share of luck from the seven alley.
“She overcame it (last time), I didn’t think she would but she did,” Honey said.
“The new ones they sort of moved off in the straight and she got through so I hope she can repeat that.”
A place in the semi-finals at Wentworth Park is up for grabs in the new statewide series.
Honey admitted it would be hard, but would love to be part of the next stage as well.
“It will be tough and it will be a lot tougher further on if she gets through but we are in it and that is a big thing,” he said.
Regardless Honey will have plenty of support on his home track.
In a twist the locals have come up with the visitors draws with Ben Talbolt’s pair Zipping Buck (six) and Myroing Magic (eight) also drawing wide.
Young dog King Corleone has the five box.
Sydney trainer Andrew Bell lines up King Jeremy (one), Irinka Hamo (three) and Vegas Ethics (four) while Group One winner Blue Sky Riot comes in as a short priced favourite from the two.
Resuming from a break, Honey expects the Kylee Osborne trained bitch will be better for her first experience on the Wagga circuit.
“It only went ordinary the other day but with the run on the track it probably will,” he said.
“It is a very fast dog and it run around a bit.
“Being a city trainer they go to all the big races and they wouldn’t be coming if they didn’t have the dogs to do it.”
However if he can’t come up with the $5000 winner’s cheque he hopes Talbot can.
“I hope if any one beats me it will be Ben,” he said.
“He’s got the dog in the eight and that would keep it local.”
The feature race is at 8.22pm.
Honey also lines up Sister Tee and Glorious Leader over the 10-race card but doesn’t like his chances.
“They are badly boxed and badly graded but they are in it,” he said.
“We will just let them go around and see if they can feed themselves but there will be an easier race for them along the line.”
