The Demonstration Gardens is hosting their annual fundraiser in the form of a steampunk ball, secretary Chris Kanck said.
“The gardens harvest veggies and cook up curries and salads and dessert under the theme of steampunk,” he said.
“We chose this theme because it lends itself to using recycle items as part of a costume which forms a part of the sustainability ethos.”
Costumes aren’t compulsory, but think ironed suits with vests and top hats, then add a roguish variation with high leather boots and goggles.
Mr Kanck said sustainable living is on the rise as people become more aware of where their food comes.
“Community gardens are a great way to bring people together and share knowledge,” he said.
Tickets can be purchased at the Demonstration Gardens, 53A Shaw Street on Saturday morning from 9am.
