Henwood Park teenager Brooke Gayler tasted interschool premiership glory last month – now she’s chasing an open women’s title.
The Hawks striker starred for Mater Dei Catholic College in their 4-0 grand final win over Kooringal High School, scoring three goals and clinching the Tiffany Selby Medal for best on ground, but Gayler has plenty of football to get through before the season’s out.
Her side earned the minor premiership and a second chance in the Leonard Cup finals series to sit just one win away from a grand final berth.
“We’ve been pretty good throughout the year but we haven’t really had our full team together until now, so I reckon we’ll go alright against Junee on Sunday,” Gayler said.
The 18-year-old has been a menace up front for the Hawks this season, scoring 27 goals in 14 games to sit 11 goals clear atop the competition leader board.
“It’s been good scoring a few goals but I reckon I’ve missed a fair few as well,” Gayler joked.
