Earlier: Four people have been rushed to Wagga Base Hospital after a crash on the Newell Highway at Mirrool, about 50km west of Temora.
The crash involved two cars towing a caravan each.
The collision occurred after one vehicle attempted a U-turn in front of the other on the high-speed highway, a NSW Ambulance spokesperson said.
Northbound traffic is affected with emergency services and the Roads and Maritime Services in attendance.
The NSW Ambulance spokesperson said one driver was trapped briefly.
“He had pain in the lower right side of his chest, forearm and ankle,” the spokesperson said.
“He remains in relatively stable condition.”
Three other people were able to free themselves from the vehicles, sustaining only minor injuries.
The spokesperson said a helicopter was also deployed.
“Three were transported via road and one by air,” he said.
“All to Wagga – it’s unbelievable no one was killed.”
Live Traffic NSW listed the accident beginning at 9.34am today.
Alternating stop-slow traffic conditions are in place and motorists are urged to reduce speed and exercise caution.
