Wagga’s Bill Hardman died after the car he was travelling in crashed with another vehicle on August 14.

Lavington man Shannon Devos, 25, was allegedly driving a car stolen during an aggravated home break-in. 

It’s alleged he stole the silver Mitsubishi Magna from a unit on Margaret Place in Lavington sometime between 3am and 9am on the day of the deadly collision.

Devos lives in a unit on Douglas Road, a few hundred metres away from the Margaret Place home.

Father-of-three Bill Hardman, 44, died at the scene of the collision on the Olympic Highway on August 14. 

The Mazda CX-5 he was driving was badly damaged during the collision.

Devos was hospitalised and was charged with three offences on Monday after his release from Albury base.

It’s alleged he was driving in a dangerous manner, as well as speeding, before the crash.

Police allege the 25-year-old’s conduct amounts to manslaughter. 

He did not appear before a court hearing in Albury on Monday or apply to be released.

Inspector Scott Russell said investigators had been keeping the late man’s family informed of the developments.

Devos, who is in custody in Junee, was also badly hurt in the crash, which occurred about 9am. 

“His injuries were serious,” Inspector Russell said. 

“He was released from hospital (on Monday) and subsequently charged with serious offences.” 

The incident had been investigated by officers from the Southern Crash Investigation Unit and Albury detectives. 

The matter will return to Albury Local Court on October 5 for further mention.
